BFP, volunteers contain Mt. Posdo fireThe Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and community volunteers responded to contain two forest fire incidents that occurred on February 3 and 4 near Camantokob, Barangay Guinaoang, and Mt. Posdo in the Municipality of Mankayan, preventing further spread and ensuring the safety of nearby communities. The first fire, reported on February 3 near Camantokob, Barangay Guinaoang, was immediately responded to by community volunteers. A second fire broke out the following day at around 11:00 a.m. in Manpey-es, Barangay Bulalacao, which later spread toward Barangay Guinaoang.Through coordinated response efforts, both fires were successfully contained, with no injuries or casualties reported.Following a fire investigation, the Barangay Bulalacao Local Government Unit announced that the causes of the Little Posdo fire incident have already been identified. The findings underscored the need to further strengthen the Information, Education, and Communication Strategy (IECS) of the BFP, in close coordination with barangay officials, to enhance community awareness and preparedness on fire prevention. In an official public advisory, barangay authorities reminded all garden owners and residents to exercise utmost responsibility, particularly in activities such as open burning and land clearing, which pose significant fire hazards. Residents were warned that negligence and carelessness can result in serious damage to lives, properties, and the environment. The advisory also reiterated the provisions of Republic Act No. 9514, or the Fire Code of the Philippines of 2008, which strictly prohibits open burning and other hazardous acts. Violators may face fines ranging from P10,000 to P100,000, imprisonment of six months to six years, or both, depending on the gravity of the offense and the extent of damage caused. Heavier penalties may apply in cases where negligence results in fire and endangers lives or property. // Marvelyn B. Acop, PIO Intern📸 Mankayan LGU ... See MoreSee Less
