Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas said the concreting of the trade fair area in Wangal, La Trinidad has finally been completed. Muddy ground had been a major concern among vegetable dealers and truckers whenever they use this multi-purpose area especially during the rainy season, the same problem being experienced by end users during Adivay celebrations and trade fair activities.
SABLAN GETS NEW FIRETRUCK TO BOOST EMERGENCY RESPOSE
The Local Government of Sablan now has a penetrator fire truck after its fruitful counterpart-funding partnership with the provincial government of Benguet headed by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas.Governor Diclas said the provincial LGU released P3.8 million to augment the funds available at the said Municipal LGU for the procurement of a P4.4-million firetruck. According to Abner Lawangen, Benguet Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (PDRRMO), the procurement of the penetrator is part of the effort of the Provincial DRRM Council in strengthening the capacity of the municipality to respond to emergency situations. Reports say Sablan has recorded significant number of unattended or unmanaged fire incidents due to narrow roads where firetrucks or huge vehicles could not enter prompting the LGU to request for a penetrator, a firetruck designed to penetrate through narrow streets. Governor Diclas and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan headed by Vice Governor Ericson Lawagey Felipe officially turned over the penetrator firetruck Monday morning, July 25, at the Provincial Capitol to Sablan LGU headed by Mayor Alfredo Dacumos Jr. Meanwhile, the Provincial DRRM Council chaired by Governor Diclas continues to remind the public to regularly practice fire safety measures as fire incidents in the province are still on the rise. PDRRMO said most of the reported fire cases in the province are caused by negligence, unattended cooking areas, electrical problems, and faulty wirings.
BENGUET TEAM HAULS 16 MEDALS, NAMED 2ND OVERALL CHAMPION IN REGIONAL MUAY THAI
A TEAM of 20 martial art athletes from Benguet emerged as the 2nd over-all champion in the recently concluded Regional Muay Thai held in Olongapo City. In the July 13-17 Muay Thai Championship, the Benguet Team garnered 10 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and a bronze medal or a total of 16 medals naming them the 2nd best team out of 18 competing provinces Luzon-wide. Martial artists representing Taytay, Rizal were announced Champion after leading with only one gold medal over Team Benguet. The team led by their head coaches Zaidi Laruan and Jun Benito paid a courtesy visit to Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas Monday morning, July 25, to present their medals and plaque of recognition. Governor Diclas congratulated the team on their victory and on lifting the name of the province high in the field of sports.Laruan said the team is composed of martial artists from different groups, namely, Team Lakay, Team Kafagway, Team Faith, Muay Boran Team, and Evolution Team. The Office of the Governor has been actively supporting Benguet athletes as it recognizes the contribution of sports not only to youth development, but also to the promotion of good values such as team-work and self-discipline. Further, Governor Diclas said sports continue to mold Benguet prides as they represent the province in national and international competitions serving as inspiration to their fellow iBenguet.
Some 431 Samsung Galaxy android tablets were turned over by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas together with members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan headed by Vice Governor Ericson Lawagey Felipe to DepEd-Benguet headed by Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Gloria Buya-ao after the flag-raising ceremony at the Provincial Capitol on Monday morning, July 25. These tablets will be distributed to learners in the various districts in the province to aid them in their studies as they struggle through challenges still brought by the present crises.
Employees of the Provincial Capitol headed by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas planted an aggregate of 1,280 assorted seedlings in four different schedules of tree-planting activities since June. Grouped into different schedules, the employees were sent to plant trees in four identified sites by the Benguet Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (BPENRO), namely, Balakbak Elementary School in Kapangan; Camp 30 in Caliking, Atok; and two sites in Sipsip Communal Forest in Poblacion, Atok. The seedlings planted were mahogany, guyabano, Benguet coffee, pine trees, and alnus.Tyson Porin, Community Development Assistant at BPENRO, said the activity is in line with the celebration of the Environment Month last June and in support of the National Greening Program. The employees are set to conduct series of ‘tree-caring’ activity in September this year for the trees planted in the previous tree-planting activities of the Provincial LGU, where they clean the sites and apply fertilizers, he added. Further, the Provincial LGU has also donated a total of 1,930 assorted tree seedlings to several municipal LGUs and institutions which they also planted during their tree-planting activities. The Provincial LGU is managing two nurseries located in Wangal, La Trinidad and Camp 4, Tuba. Meanwhile, barangay school-based nurseries are also part of the environmental effort of the Provincial Government where schools are provided nursery materials and technical assistance through workshops conducted by the BPENRO.
The improvement of Kapangan Public Market Building Annex C in Lomon, Kapangan
The improvement of Kapangan Public Market Building Annex C in Lomon, Kapangan has already started. Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas allocated P1.5 million for the rehabilitation of the market to expand the space of its rooms and enhance the structure of the building with the installation of more canopies, new doors, and tempered glass walls. Members of the Provincial Project Monitoring Committee together with engineers from the Provincial Engineering Office have recently inspected the project to ensure its effective implementation.

The ongoing construction of the new three-story Kapangan District Hospital (KDH) in Kapangan Central funded and being implemented by the Provincial Government of Benguet led by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas.The first phase of the project has recently been completed while the construction of the second phase will soon begin according to the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO). Governor Diclas allocated funds in the amount of P10 million for the second phase of the project, health being one of his major priority programs under his HEALTHIER Benguet agenda.The project broke ground in 2021.

The award was turned over by DOH Undersecretary Dr. Myrna Cabotaje, DOH CAR Regional Director Dr. Rio Magpantay, and Assistant Regional Director Dr. Amelita Pangilinan to Governor Diclas represented by his Executive Assistant Dr. Ryan Guinaran; Dr. Meliarazon Dulay, Provincial Health Officer I; Dr. Mercedes Calpito, DMO V, PDOHO; and Melanie June Pucay, DMO IV, PDOHO, during the DOH regional recognition for CoVID-19 vaccination at Baguio Convention Center on June 23, 2022.“Your perseverance and dedication to protect the public are beyond the call of normal duties during this time of pandemic,” read the plaque. Further, the towns of Tublay, Buguias, and La Trinidad also received the same recognition and a P50,000.00 worth of check each. These towns are the top three performing municipalities in terms of CoVID-19 vaccination rate in the province having inoculated over 70% of their target population. The awards were received by their respective local chief executive and municipal health officer.
