Former Rebel Surrenders in Benguet, Gets aid from Gov't

A 30-year-old former rebel officially turned over his M14 rifle at the Governor’s Office Tuesday morning after finally returning back to the fold of the law.
The ex-rebel, a native of Barcelona, Sorsogon and a resident of Mandaluyong City, received relief assistance from the Provincial Government of Benguet Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas said “he (the former rebel) will use at least while he starts a new life.”

A financial assistance under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the government in ending armed conflict will also be given to the former rebel after the necessary documents are processed, the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development (OPSWD) said.
The former rebel was recruited in 2012 and eventually took part in the armed wing in 2013 where he was sent to Mountain province until 2020.

Governor Diclas recognized the intensive effort of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in collaboration with all the partner agencies in implementing the whole-of nation approach in ending armed conflict.

DRIVE WITH PRECAUTION

DRIVE WITH PRECAUTION

Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas is once again warning motorists to take precautionary measures while driving especially during these rainy days.
Another rockslide happened along Alno-Bekes Provincial Road this afternoon.
Personnel from the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO), with assistance from the PDRRMO, immediately conducted clearing on the said road section.

Motorists are further advised to cancel their non-essential travels during rainy hours for their safety.

Dr. Meliarazon Dulay, Provincial Health Officer I, said the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) will ensure that that private and government agency stakeholders collaborate to attain a 90% coverage of senior citizens inoculated with primary series and a 50% coverage of the general population receiving at least a first booster shot, on or before October 8, 2022.

“Once we become successful in all these endeavors, we will come to that time when we remove mask mandates, remove alert level system, and fully reopen school and travels,” Dr. Dulay stated.

Albeit the province has vaccinated 73% of its population against the CoVID-19 virus, Benguet is still under Alert Level 2 as the 70% criteria for the vaccination rate of senior citizens has not yet been met having only inoculated 60.54%.

Meanwhile, three towns in the province are now under Alert Level 1 having met the 70% criteria for the general and senior citizen population, namely, Buguias, Sablan, and Tublay.

Dr. Mercedes Calpitol, DMO V – PDOHO, encouraged the public to ‘fully’ advocate the vaccination program in order to hit the target numbers and finally meet herd immunity.

Vaccination sites in the different towns in the province through their Rural Health Units (RHUs) have been active catering to the general population. House-to-house vaccination is also being conducted for those who cannot go to the designated vaccination sites.
